LAKEWOOD PRAIRIE POND UPDATE

We will finish mowing the south basin and install the native seed in both basins this spring. The southwest basin will have spot seed for areas with low native populations, and the northwest basin will have a full overseed to bring it back to a prairie ecosystem. The sandbar willow were cut and removed from the northwest basin this winter. 
This summer, we will have 2-3 herbicide treatments for each site focusing on invasive species like sandbar willow, Canada thistle and reed canary grass. 
In the fall/winter, the northwest basin will be cut, and the southwest basin will have a prescribed burn. If the northwest basin has enough fuel to do a burn, we will substitute that for the mow.
